VALERIAN (Valeriana officinalis): A straight and follow-stemmed perennial plant which measures 1 m. in height. The leaves are made up of numerous divisions with petioles and the flowers, which are very perfumed, are grouped in terminal umbels. It has notable properties as a sedative and anti-spasmodic. The roots are cut in the spring, dried in the shade and then used. Cultivation: requires moist soils and a humid atmosphere.
